Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ)

TMJ Disorder:
May refer to a variety of injuries or dysfunctions of the temporomandibular Joint (abbreviated as TMJ) This joint is located in the front of the ear where the skull & lower jaw meet.

TMJ symptoms
May include: earaches, headaches, a clicking or grinding noise from the jaw joint, limited jaw movement or pain when the jaw is opened or closed

Major causes:
Two major causes of TMJ are Arthritis and Injury. Symptoms may also result from slipped discs in the joint or from Jaw spasms.

Treatment:
TMJ Treatments vary with the cause and severity of the symptoms. Treatment may include physical therapy, joint splints or surgery.
